The new tourist signs installed in the Upper Town of Bergamo, within the walls of the fortified city, conceal within it a true innovation that opens up new communication horizons: the beacons.
Beacons are small devices to be inserted inside traditional signs and work with Bluetooth technology, they monitor the presence, up to an average range of 50 meters, of mobile devices and can communicate with them. The user will view the informations on the lectern and information panels, on the floor lamps and on the wayfinding totems and in addition to this, he will be able to deepen the topic with the updates received directly on his smartphone.
It will be sufficient to download an app on your mobile phone and beacons will be able to send additional informations to smartphones detected in their proximity, conveying simple informations, but also multimedia contents such as photos, videos, documents, links, questionnaires and feedback requests.
Beacon technology can find various uses, from tourist signs to wayfinding, from marketing communication to queuing machines, from museums to the communication of timetables / services or events.
It can be used in hospitals, banks, post offices, airports, railway stations, bus shelters, hospitals, waiting rooms, schools, museums, shopping centers, shops, tourist villages for information, marketing or entertainment purposes.
It is a new mobile communication channel, able to connect smartphones to the objects that are around, giving new features to even the most traditional signs.
